Practical Support for Thinking and Memory Difficulties

people-2583943_1920 edit

The key to treating thinking and memory difficulties caused by brain changes is to use compensatory strategies.

Compensatory strategies are those which use a person’s strengths and extra support from other people or the environment to achieve their daily tasks.

Neuropsychologists can help people to identify problem areas, suggest strategies which may help, provide training about how to use strategies and to help figure out what works best.

Who can benefit from Practical Support?

Practical support can be helpful for a range of cognitive strengths and weaknesses:

  • People with milder difficulties may need support with work, study or leisure activities.
  • People experiencing greater difficulties may need support with memory or organisation to manage day-to-day tasks.
  • People with more severe difficulties may need support with communication or engagement in activities.

How much does Practical Support cost?

The amount of practical support you need depends on the difficulties you are currently experiencing. We can work on a plan to cover your needs in an initial 50 minute session.

Funding rebates may be available from Extras Health Insurance, NDIS, and Medicare through the Chronic Disease Management GP program
